President’s Message – March 2010

March is here, the days are longer the economy seems to be picking up, and the weather is excellent and what a busy month it’s been we held our Annual Spring Symposium in Palm Springs and it was a great success due to the hard work and effort by the board and volunteers.

In other news we want to congratulate past President Ghulam Shaikh on the birth of his daughter Aisha. We wish all the Shaikh family health and prosperity and look forward to seeing Aisha at next year’s Spring Symposium

We still have 2 months of activities before the year is out. The April Dinner Meeting speaker, Kim Baker, will be presenting on Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) projects. This is a topic that should interest many of you as it is one of the growing trends in alternative project delivery that we will be seeing more of in the coming years.

You will shortly be receiving ballots for elections of the Officers and Board of the Southern California Section, I urge you all to participate in the election but your vote will only count if you are current in your dues. It has recently come to our attention that a number of you have forgotten to renew your membership in AACEI and I urge you all to update your membership as soon as possible.

For those of you planning on sitting for the certification exam Early Bird registration for the July Exam closes April 25th. The exam will be hosted by the Southern California Section on July 10th at a site to be determined.

As part of our continuing effort to improve our local chapter of AACE, your Board will continue to  actively focus on outreach to corporate sponsors, professional societies, and schools. As always we look to you, our members, to help us with this effort. In our effort to improve the chapter I would encourage you to provide feedback on the dinner meetings and the Spring Symposium. We would love to hear from you and will publish your comments in the newsletter.

Happy Spring and to my Persian friends and relatives “Aide Shoma Mobarak” (Happy Persian New Year!).
